To ward off famine, the Ga people celebrate Homowo in Accra. Food is then offered to the gods and ancestors.
"Homo", hunger and "wo", to boo or mock is the festival of the Ga people that takes place between August and September, to evoke the famine that affected them in their pre-colonial history. This festival takes place in the Ga Mashie District of Accra. It consists of several rituals including the sprinkling of a dish offered to the gods and ancestors, called Kpokpoi, or the procession of twins, which in their culture symbolize fertility and prosperity. If you are in the area during this period, ask the locals for the exact schedule.
