In order to ward off illnesses, the gods are invoked in a great festival in Cape Coast. Sacrificial cows and dances are part of the program.
Straddling the last week of August and the first week of September, in Cape Coast. Fetu Afahye is a very colorful festival. Like all other major cultural events, it features music and dance performances, as well as a procession of chiefs. During the festivities, a cow is sacrificed at the foot of the city's guardian tree: "Afahye". The celebration is an address to the gods to ask them to ward off diseases, epidemics that once ravaged the ranks of the Cape Coast population.
