A large multi-media festival is celebrated in Cape Coast every year with one objective: to work for international pan-Africanism.
The first Pan Festival was held between Cape Coast and Elmina in December 1992. Rawlings had inaugurated it with the will to find his roots, to commemorate the history to never forget it. Every two years, the city of Cape Coast, which is at the center of this great event, puts on its festive clothes for a week: dance and theater performances, and songs follow one another to allow everyone to understand the history. Carrying the idea of pan-Africanism, the Panfest promises unity between Africans of the continent and those of the diaspora.
