FORT AMSTERDAM
Fort built by the English in the century and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to be visited in Abandze.
This fort, located in Abandze and inscribed on the Unesco World Heritage List, was built by the English in the 17th century, between 1638 and 1645 to be exact. Named Fort Cormantin, it was a strategic center of the English positions on the Gold Coast and of their slave trade. After a retreat of the English in the face of the Ashanti, it was the Dutch who took it over and renamed it "Fort Amsterdam", before returning it to the English. Today, you can visit it to immerse yourself in an era that was not so long ago.
