FORT SAN ANTHONY

Fort in good condition at Axim, a former colonial trading post, a site steeped in history and well worth a visit.
This Portuguese trading post of 1502 was destroyed by the inhabitants of the city 12 years after its inauguration, pushing the Portuguese to rebuild a second fort in 1515. It was then that the slave trade began. To facilitate the embarkation, a tunnel was dug between the fort and a floating island 100 m away. The fort was stormed in 1642 by the Dutch, then conquered by the English in 1664 before being retaken by the Dutch one year later. In 1872, it was again ceded by a contract of sale to the English. Today it is in good condition.
