BOTI FALLS
Visit to discover a remarkable 20-meter-high waterfall, with a natural pool, to the east of Koforidua.
Boti Falls are located to the east of Koforidua, near Huhunya, on the road to Burkuso and then Agomanya. From Koforidua's main station, you can get there by trotro or shared cab. A sign indicates where to turn on this old road, making access to this 20-metre-high waterfall easy! Combined with a picnic lunch, it's a perfect outing for Accra's residents. From Akosombo, allow 1 hour's drive.
Once you've passed the park entrance, it's a ten-minute walk to the waterfall. There's no point in going there in the dry season, when the flowing water is infinitely thin or non-existent. In the high season, however, swimming in the natural pool below is a real treat! At your own risk, however: snakes can sometimes be found roaming the waters. So check with the locals before taking a dip!
From the waterfall, it's another 30-minute walk to Umbrella Rock. The view over the valley from the top is superb. Try to visit the park in the morning, to meet the hundreds of butterflies that seem to wake up at the same time. Other waterfalls can be visited if you're in the Akosombo area. The Agumatsa Falls in Wli (2 hrs away) are the largest in Ghana. This excursion requires a good level of fitness.
