The ancestors are celebrated here as they emerged from a hole, followed by a dog and a lion, musicians and dancers.

The Ashanti Nkyidwo festival, whose name means "on Monday night," takes place in Essumeja, near Kumasi, every last Monday in November or first Monday in December. It is a very important festival celebrated by the Essumeja people to commemorate their origins. According to them, their ancestors came out of a hole on a Monday night and were followed by a dog and a lion, musicians and dancers. The gods are invoked at the time of this festival to ensure the protection and prosperity of the inhabitants.
