MANHYIA PALACE MUSEUM
Museum of Ashanti royalty housed in the historic Asantehene mansion in Kumasi, with a splendid garden on site.
The historic home of the Asantehene, kings of the Ashanti, has been transformed into a museum of Ashanti royalty. The house was given to Prempeh I by the British colonial powers in 1925, on his return from exile in the Seychelles. The palace of the current Asantehene, Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, is located within the same large complex, which sits on the vast square overlooking the Central Market. A guided tour of this small palace is well worthwhile to understand the special role of Ashanti royalty in Ghana. The museum has a pleasant garden.
