MOSQUÉE DONDOLI
Visit a remarkable mosque in Wa, a sumptuous Sudanese-style structure.
Named after the district in which it was built, the Dondoli Mosque is a sumptuous Sudanese-style structure. It is estimated to have been built in the 19th century. Its silhouette - solid, closely-spaced buttresses tapering upwards to form a pinnacle topped by a dome - is characteristic of the Djenné style, influenced by Dioula merchants who fled Mali. There are also protruding pieces of wood jutting out from the walls: they serve as anchors for the buttresses, but also as scaffolding for maintenance. A flat roof dominates the whole.
