Hotel opposite the arco, offering classic but well-appointed rooms, some with balconies

Thearco is the Arco di Riccardo, a Roman arch, an ancient city gate, which faces this small hotel set in an 18th century palace. The rooms are classically furnished and well kept, and some have a balcony. All rooms are decorated with artistic photographs of Trieste taken by a local photographer. Nearby, in Via Cavazzeni, the Residence all'Arco also has three fully equipped apartments. A central address in the heart of Trieste's Città vecchia.

I really can't say enough good things about Hotel all'Arco! We learned about this hotel in an online forum and the recommendation was spot-on! Booking our room online was easy and we received an e-mail confirmation from the staff; indeed, there was good communication throughout our experience via e-mail and Whatsapp that included directions on how to arrive at the hotel. The rooms are generously-sized and ours even had a balcony with a beautiful view overlooking the arch for which the hotel is named! The breakfast (which cost extra, but was inexpensive) was very good with coffee and a selection of continental items, cereals, and yogurt. The location is great with many sites, shops, and restaurants nearby. Transportation is easily-accessible, too, with the Centrale train station and cruise terminal within walking distance, but if you want to go farther afield, then taxis can drive right up to the front door. The best thing about this property, though, is the lovely staff! Walter, Giulia, and Roberta (All of whom speak English.) are all SO kind, SO lovely, and SO helpful! They had good suggestions for places to eat and shop and made phone calls on our behalf to check on hours, table availability, etc. If I had to come up with one criticism to balance this sincerely glowing review, it would be that some noise from the street and other rooms came through, so my ear-plugs came in handy. If and when I return to Trieste, I will stay at Hotel all'Arco again!

The review is for the apartments that Hotel All'Arco offers in Via dei Cavazzeni, 5 as supplementary accommodation to their main location. As one can see from the many reviews, the booking process is confusing as you book a room thinking it is in the main building and get a cheaply furnished apartment in another building.

The apartment is 200 metres away and closer to the old town with its night life and energy, yet tucked away in a side street and spared all the noise.
Spacious bedroom with kitchenette.
Fridge and washing machine on site.

The main problem is that the price of 130 euros per night we paid is a rip-off. The apartment is furnished with bland, cheap furniture that is inappropriate for the historic building; it shows signs of having been well used and not well maintained.
The air conditioning is so loud that you have to turn it off at night.
The lift only takes one person, and there is no room for luggage over medium size.
The view from every window is of the wall of the building across a narrow street 2 metres away. The access road to the annex crosses a dilapidated area where some shacks were being demolished.
