SYNAGOGA DI TRIESTE
Hebrew temple with characteristic carvings and rosettes and oriental style inside.
Built at the end of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (1912), the synagogue bears witness to the size and influence of the Jewish community in Trieste. It is one of the most important in Italy, and the second largest in Europe. The Hebrew temple, austere on the outside, is characterized on the inside by references to the oriental medieval style, mullioned windows, slender columns, sculptures and rosettes with the Star of David. The museum also houses some remarkable pieces. Guided tours of the Jewish cemetery are also available.
