BASILICA DI AQUILEIA
Large religious building with paleochristian mosaics with 2 crypts.
In the early 4th century AD, the great religious edifice played a decisive role in the development of Christianity in Central Europe. The patriarchal basilica was restored after the earthquake of 1348. Inside, the paleo-Christian mosaics can be admired thanks to a system of glass walkways running along the entire nave. These are the world's largest and best-preserved mosaics. Two crypts house other superb mosaics from a 1st-century Roman domus, as well as 12th-century frescoes.
