It is the oldest fair of the city still in force, and one of the oldest in Italy. It dates back to 1380, when Patriarch Marquard Randeck granted the city of Udine permission to hold an event in honor of St. Catherine. This very popular fair is held in Piazza Primo Maggio, at the foot of the castle of Udine. It brings together nearly 300 stalls of street vendors selling handicrafts, gourmet products and clothing from all over Italy, as well as fairground attractions.
