Fountain with a statue in the center of the most characteristic place of the city.
One of the most characteristic places of the city. Once a market square (now Piazza XX Settembre), this is where the baroque church of San Giacomo stands, one of the most beautiful in Udine, amidst a succession of colorful arcaded houses. To its right stands the Chapel of the Souls, crowned by a balustrade with the four cardinal virtues. In the center of the square is a fountain by Giovanni da Udine, dated 1543, and a column bearing a 15th century statue of the Virgin and Child.
