PIAZZA DELLA LIBERTÀ
Main building considered a Renaissance jewel of the city.
This square is the Renaissance jewel of the city. The main building is the 15th century Palazzo del Comune, better known as the Loggia del Lionello, after its architect; its openwork balcony and three-lobed windows recall the Venetian influence. Opposite is the Renaissance loggia and the portico of San Giovanni surmounted by the Clock Tower (1527). Its architect, Giovanni da Udine, was inspired by the Clock Tower in St. Mark's Square in Venice. On the left, the arco Bollani is a work of Palladio that leads to the Castello d'Udine.
