TEMPIETTO LONGOBARDO
Palatine chapel decorated with frescoes used as an oratory by the nuns.
One of the jewels of the city, listed by Unesco. Built in the 8th century, this palatine chapel of the Lombard royal court was decorated by great artists of the time, when the patriarch lived in Cividale, in a style mixing Byzantine, paleochristian and Lombard influences. One can admire the procession of saints sculpted in stucco on both sides of the window and the frieze of bunches of grapes, whose original shimmering colors can be imagined. The chapel was later used as an oratory by the nuns and decorated with frescoes in the 14th century.
