BUONCONSIGLIO CASTLE
A remarkable castle in Trento, the most monumental in the region.
This medieval castle, the most monumental in the region, is very well preserved. The oldest part, Castelvecchio, is dominated by a powerful cylindrical tower. From 1247, it became the residence of the prince-bishops. The power of the time (Middle Ages, Renaissance) in the hands of the clergy and the Germanic emperors is largely represented in the numerous frescos, giving an exceptional character to this visit. The Magno Palace is an extension of the Renaissance style of the 16th century, with its frescoes by Dosso and Battista Dossi that decorate the hall and the great hall. A true hymn to the reign of its builder Bernardo Clesio, who was represented in all circumstances. The beautiful loggia, from which the bishops showed themselves to the people, offers a beautiful view of the city. The Magno Palace was the starting point for the introduction of the Renaissance in Trento. The baroque Giunta Albertiana dates back to the end of the 17th century. After the end of the episcopal principality (1803), the castle was used as barracks; restored, it became in 1924 the seat of the National Museum.
Torre Aquila. The beauty of this tower is due to Prince-Bishop Giorgio di Liechtenstein, who had it decorated with frescoes of a still intact luminosity. The frescoes date from the end of the 14th century and represent the cycle of the months. They are an open book on the daily life of that time. Do not miss this exceptional work!
