MUSEO D'ARTE MODERNA E CONTEMPORANEA (MART)
Museum of contemporary art in Rovereto, one of the largest in Italy.
A national cultural reference. Inaugurated in 2002, the Mart of Rovereto is one of the largest museums of modern and contemporary art in Italy.
Architecture. The futuristic building is monumental, designed by the famous Swiss architect from Ticino, Mario Botta, in collaboration with the engineer from Rovereto, Giulio Andreolli. The heart of the building is a large glass and steel dome that overlooks the central square. Covering 1,300m2 on the ground, at a height of up to 25 meters, the 40-meter diameter roof alternates between light and shadow, just like the Pantheon in Rome! Mario Botta chose yellow Vicenza stone to clad the facades of this magnificent building.
Collections. On four floors, the museum presents an impressive collection of more than 15,000 archives and works of art, ranging from 1830 to the present day. Organized around large sections, the most important of which are "The Invention of the Modern" on thefirst floor and "The Irruption of the Contemporary" on thesecond floor, the museum presents very relevant thematic rooms.
The numerous temporary exhibitions, always of high quality, focus on international contemporary artists. They attract art lovers from all over the region and far beyond. There is an interesting store with books, exhibition catalogs and arty objects, as well as a library. In addition, MART has two branches in Trento: the Casa d'Arte Futurista Depero and the Galleria Civica.
