CASTEL MARECCIO
A picturesque 13th century castle in a pleasant setting just a few minutes from the center of Bolzano.
It is a picturesque 13th century castle buried in the middle of its vineyards, with Mount Catinaccio as a backdrop, just a few minutes walk from the town centre. Its massive tower is the oldest one built by Berthold von Maretsch, then commissioner of the Lords of Tyrol and lawyer in Bolzano. Enlarged in the 13th and 14th centuries with defensive elements (including passageways and battlements), embellished in the Renaissance period with frescoes and four pretty round towers, it now hosts events such as the South Tyrolean Wine Fair.
