PIAZZA DELLE ERBE

Square with a fountain, one of the most beautiful in Italy, and surrounded by picturesque Tyrolean houses in Bolzano.
Bordered by picturesque Tyrolean houses with brightly painted facades, this square has been the setting for the fruit and vegetable market since the 12th century. A daily appointment (except Sundays) just as colourful as the facades, with its famous pyramid displays. In its centre is the Neptune fountain (built in 1745), one of the most beautiful in Italy. Note the neo-gothic building at the corner of the Museum Street, a plaque commemorates the former "Soleil/Al Sole" hotel where Goethe, Herder and Emperor Joseph II of Austria stayed.
