PIAZZA WALTHER
A remarkable square, the most lively in Bolzano, with a beautiful statue of a medieval poet.
Vines grew here until the 18th century, before it became the most lively square in the city. Since 1901 it has been dedicated to the poet Walther von der Vogelweide, whose statue stands in the middle. Born in 1170, he is regarded as the greatest medieval German-speaking poet, a native of the region. The square marks the entrance to Bolzano's pedestrian zone. In December, the traditional Christmas market takes place here. You will find the tourist information office and bicycles for hire in the square (at the tourist office).
