CASTEL D'APPIANO
Castle with a chapel decorated with remarkable frescoes, the best preserved in Tyrol, in Eppan.
The Château des Comtes is a 45-minute walk from the village. Built in the 12th century, it stands on a rocky outcrop at 636 meters, in a strategic position overlooking the valley. The chapel is particularly noteworthy for its 13th-century frescoes. Rediscovered in 1926 beneath more recent layers of paint, these frescoes are among the best preserved in Tyrol. Among the scenes from the Bible is the first depiction of canederlo, the typical Tyrolean table food!
