MENDOLA FUNICULAR
Railway installation on request of Emperor Franz Joseph to connect the valleys of South Tyrol and Trentino
The railway was built in 1903 at the request of Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph to link the valleys of South Tyrol and Trentino, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. With a thrilling 64% gradient, the funicular takes visitors to the top of the Mendola Pass in less than 15 minutes. At the top, there's a magnificent panorama of the valley surrounded by mountains; it's also the starting point for excursions along the hiking trails.
