Archaeological museum in the old Benedictine monastery in Ravenna
The National Museum of Ravenna is housed in the former Benedictine monastery next to the Basilica of San Vitale. It is an archaeological and applied arts museum: it preserves Roman and early Christian finds found during excavations in the Ravenna area (funerary stelae, bas-reliefs, sarcophagi, coins) as well as a collection of ivory objects (caskets, gospel coverings) and Cretan and Venetian icons from the 16th to 18th centuries.
