TOMBA DI DANTE ALIGHIERI
Aedicule of neoclassical style housing the ancient tomb of the greatest Italian poet arrived Ravenna in 1317
The greatest Italian poet arrived in Ravenna in 1317 and died there in 1321. The neoclassical style aedicula built in 1780 houses his ancient tomb surmounted by a bas-relief sculpted by Pietro Lombardo in 1483 and depicting the poet absorbed in his reading. In the garden on the right, a small mound indicates the place where Dante's remains were hidden during the Second World War to protect them from destruction and theft. In September the commemoration of the death of Dante Alighieri takes place, with a donation of Tuscan oil on his grave.
