BASILICA DI S. APOLLINARE IN CLASS
Basilica divided into three naves by marble columns in Ravenna
The basilica was erected in the first half of the 6th century; the cylindrical bell tower dates from the 10th century. The building is the only remnant of the town of Classe, the ancient port of Ravenna. Divided into three naves by marble columns, it is superb and well worth a visit. The triumphal arch and the apse are decorated with magnificent 6th century mosaics representing, among others, Saint Apollinaire grazing his sheep in the middle of a flowery meadow.
