Medieval joust between the five districts of the town of Faenza, preceded by a historical parade in 15th century costumes.
It is one of the oldest medieval jousts in Italy, whose origin is said to date back to the visit of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa to Faenza in 1164. The palio is said to have fallen into disuse for several centuries before being restored in 1959. The joust opposes the five districts of the city, each identified by a colour: red, black, white, green and yellow. It is preceded by a historical parade with characters in 15th century costumes. But the festivities cover the whole month of June, with cultural events and gastronomic stands.
