Main square of Parma, with an exhibition palace of modern and contemporary art.
Piazza Garibaldi (12th century), or Piazza Grande, is the main square of Parma. It features the statue of Guiseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882), one of the architects of Italian unification, and, on either side: the Palazzo Podestà (13th century) which houses the town hall, the Palazzo Fainardi (13th century), the neoclassical church of San Pietro Apostolo (18th century), the Palazzo del Governatore (Governors' Palace - 13th century), whose baroque tower dates from 1673. The palace is now a venue for modern and contemporary art exhibitions.
