CHIESA DI SAN SAVINO
Church, ancient paleochristian basilica of the century in Piacenza
This church, a former Paleochristian basilica from the 5th century, was rebuilt in the 12th century. Although its current façade is Baroque, the interior has preserved the Lombard Romanesque style, with three naves divided by pillars with capitals carved with vegetal and zoomorphic motifs. The mosaic flooring of the choir and the crucifix of the high altar also date back to the 12th century. Note the carved capitals of the fine columns in the crypt, as well as the mosaic of the cycle of months with the signs of the zodiac and agricultural work.
