CHIESA DI SAN SISTO
Church built by Alessio Tramello, architect of the Renaissance in Piacenza
This church was built in the 16th century by Alessio Tramello, a Renaissance architect inspired by Bramante and by the Ferrarese Biagio Rossetti. It is preceded by a large courtyard with porticoes. Inside, the vast central nave is covered with a cradle, while the side aisles are covered with cupolas. The church is famous for the frescoes that decorate its Renaissance interior and especially for a painting by Raphael, The Sistine Madonna, now replaced by a copy, the original of which is in the Gemäldegalerie in Dresden.
