PALAZZO FARNESE
Palace housing the Municipal Museums in Piacenza
It houses the Musei Civici (Municipal Museums). On the first floor, the Pinacoteca exhibits a fine collection of Emilian, Lombard and Ligurian works from the 16th to 19th centuries, and a Virgin Adoring Botticelli's Child. On the ground floor, the archaeological museum preserves material from Prehistory and Antiquity discovered in the region. Its centrepiece is the "Piacenza liver", a bronze bovine liver covered with inscriptions, testimony to the divinatory practices of the Etruscans who read the wills of the gods in the animal entrails.
