BASILICA DELLA BEATA VERGINE DELLA GHIARA
Basilica richly decorated with golden stucco and frescoes
The construction of the Basilica is linked to the miracle of 29 April 1596, when the young deaf and mute Marchino recovered his speech and hearing while praying in front of a painting of the Virgin, by the painter Bertone (now on display on the right altar). The grandiose interior, in the shape of a Greek cross, is richly decorated with gilded stuccoes and frescoes of the 17th century Bolognese school. On the altar on the left is a Cristo in Croce (Christ on the Cross) by Guercino.
