PALAZZO DEL GOVERNO
Government Palace with 4 bells currently residing in the prefecture.
Located next to the Piazza del Plebiscito, the palace was completely redesigned in 1484, according to the project of the architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini. In 1611 a clock was added, and in 1806 it was equipped with a carillon by the master clockmaker Antonio Podrini of Sant'Angelo in Vado; four bells ring for mezzogiorno (noon). Inside, a beautiful courtyard has a portico, pointed arches and guelph windows. The government palace, now the seat of the prefecture, is the most representative building in Piazza del Plebiscito.
