DIOCESAN MUSEUM
Museum in a Roman cathedral housing a beautiful example of Christian art from the Roman period.
Situated on top of the Guasco hill overlooking the port and the historic centre, this museum inside the Palazzo del Vecchio Episcopio enjoys a magnificent location with the adjacent Romanesque cathedral of San Ciriaco. The museum, which has been closed several times, including in 2004 when a cliff under the building collapsed, exhibits the sarcophagus of Gorgonius, a beautiful example of Christian art from the Roman period in the 4th century. Other pieces are on display, dated to the early Christian and medieval periods. Free entrance but donations are welcome.
