A majestic building with a museum in the underground of the Diocese.
The majestic building is the work of the architect Luigi Vanvitelli, and was built between 1736 and 1741. A first smaller sanctuary would have been built in 1447 in a single night, as an ex voto against a plague epidemic. It will be rebuilt, larger, in 1497. The harmony of the ensemble is today unfortunately undermined by a modern construction, in which the basilica is partially integrated. In the basement is the museum of the Diocese (liturgical objects).
