Arenas dating back to 1820 where a kind of palm game was played, popular in the Marche since the 15th century and celebrated by Giacomo Leopardi's poem "A un victorio al palmo" (A winner at the palm game). Today it is a large open-air theatre dedicated to lyrical singing and symphonic music. It is also the venue for the Macerata Opera Festival, one of the most important Italian lyrical events, which takes place every year from mid-July to the beginning of August. Admission € 3, combined ticket with Palazzo Buonaccorsi and Torre Civica: € 7.
