MUSEUM OF THE SANCTUARY & BASILICA SAN NICOLA
Sanctuary with a chapel with a beautiful series of frescoes of the Rimini school of the Trecento.
The sanctuary of San Nicola (1245-1305) is one of the most important in Italy. On the façade, the beautiful Gothic entrance portal (15th century) is the work of Nanni di Bartolo. Made of Istrian marble, it shows the Virgin surrounded by Saint Anthony and Saint Nicholas, surmounted by a sculpted lunette of Saint George slaying the dragon.
Inside, a chapel gathers the most beautiful series of frescos of the Rimini school of the Trecento. The gilded wooden coffered ceiling dates from the 17th century.
