SANTA MARIA INTER VINEAS
Old fortified church of the city with a travertine baldachin dating from the 15th century.
One of the oldest churches in the city, which was once located inter vineas, surrounded by vineyards. The first foundations date back to the 10th century, but several alterations were made over the centuries. It is a very fine example of a fortified church, intended to shelter the inhabitants in case of an enemy attack - hence its sober and uncluttered appearance. Inside, the travertine baldachin dates from the 15th century. A restoration in the 1950s brought to light traces of 13th century frescoes.
