It lies between the municipality of Novo Selo/Ново Село (population 6,900), in Northern Macedonia, and that of Petrič/Петрич (population 47,000), in Bulgaria. On the Bulgarian side, it is named Zlatarevo/Златарево in honor of a Bulgarian general from Ohrid. Seldom used, it is one of three border crossings between the two countries. Once past, the road still skirts Mount Beles, the Strumica and Greece, with 5 km to the east, the interesting park-museum of Tsar Samuel's fortress.
