Behind the L'Orient building is the Al-Majidiye Mosque, once located on the waterfront. Originally, the building was a fortress bombed during the siege of Beirut by the Allies (Great Britain, Russia, Austria) at war against the Egyptian forces of Ibrahim Pasha. Then, in 1841, it was converted into a mosque and bears the name of Sultan Abdul Majid, at the initiative of the restoration of the building. Destroyed during the civil war, it was rebuilt. A minaret was added near the old one, which is still visible.
