Built in 1926, the synagogue is one of the last vestiges of the Jewish presence in the district. It was recently renovated but was not accessible to the public when we passed through in 2020. The last rabbi left the premises in 1977. This synagogue is one of the last Jewish remains in Lebanon, along with the Sodeco Jewish cemetery in Beirut and two other synagogues in Saida and Bhamdoun. In Lebanon, the Jewish community, whose religion is recognized as one of the country's 18 denominations, now numbers only about 30 people.
