In 1897, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Sultan Abdul Hamid's accession to the throne of the Ottoman Empire, a clock tower (25 m high) was erected near the Seraglio; it was one of the three towers erected on this occasion in the region (Beirut, Tripoli and Haifa). The construction of the Seraglio tower was decided by the city's municipality. It was renovated in 1997. Because of the security of the Seraglio, it is not possible to approach the clock. It can only be seen from the Roman baths.
