MUSEUM PASSAGEWAY

The National Museum gave its name to the infamous «Museum passage», which was one of the channels of communication between the West and East sides of Beirut during the war. Kidnappings, bombings and mourning punctuated the history of this avenue, which was one of the busiest in the capital before 1975. From the beginning of the conflict, its bourgeois buildings were ruined in ruins. Virus buildings, shredded balconies, yawning walls… It was in this apocalyptic setting that, in the course of the fifteen years of conflict, non-violent demonstrations were organised. In the middle of the fire, Lebanese from different faiths carried out the exchange of bags of blood, meaning their willingness to resist together and to give civilians this life that the militiamen of every flight tried to remove them. Today, the Museum's passage is the subject of a vast development plan with the next opening of a tunnel that will help relieve the area.
