CROSSED CASTLE
2 km from Rachana stands the ruins of the cross castle of Smar Jubayl (which means Gardien Gardien). Smar Jubayl is one of the oldest villages in Lebanon. In the Middle Ages, Maronites found refuge there.
Situated on a rocky promontory, this fortress, surrounded by a ditch carved in the rock and dating from the time of the crusaders, stands majestically at the top of the village. Unfortunately unknown to tourists, this site is remarkable. You will not be disappointed to make a small hook by Smar Jubayl. Some of the castle's foundations were carved into the rock. There are even funeral tanks. This site was part of the fief of Sainte-Montagnes des lords de Batroun. The square plan, its central dungeon and towers are very distinguished. The castle dates back to the beginning of the th century. Access to the site is free. From the top of the castle, a magnificent landscape is close to the eye. On one side jaillit Mount-Lebanon while on the other extends the blue of the sea.
