In Hamat, in the north near Batroun, there is an Orthodox convent Deir Al al-Nourieh or Notre Dame des Lumières. A place of pilgrimage, holy place and miraculous, this convent dates back to the th century and was completed in the th century. Its structure is that of a cloister. The church is basilical and has only a nave while the modern iconostasis is marble. Lovely place where four sisters and two priests live.
A path, which leaves the convent, leads to a small chapel from where one has a splendid view over Tripoli. To reach Hamat from Batroun, you will be surprised to cross Ouajh el- (at an airfield trail. This is an old runway built in the 1980 s, which was abandoned during the civil war.
