THE RUINS OF THE CRUSADER CASTLE
A castle at the time of the crusades occupied the peninsula (400 m long on 120 m wide) located north of the village. It was one of the most important cross fortresses in the region. The site consisted of 12 towers. The site is accessed at the level of the cemetery by venturing in one-way streets. Almost nothing remains, only a few sections of walls and, above all, two ditches, one of which, 100 m long, 12 to 15 m wide and 8 to 10 m deep, cut the isthmus to water level. The site was dismantled by the Mameluk at the end of the th century. The stones of the castle have been reused for the construction of houses. Feel free to walk on the peninsula. Direct contact with nature, noise of waves and wind for company. In the last century, the site was entirely occupied by salines, which left many traces today. At random of the walk around the site, you will find cavities dug in the rock. The site is a private property, but it does not prevent free access to it.
Finally, Enfé comes from Anf el-Hajar, which means the nose of the stone pointing towards the sea. Enfé has been one of 100 worst damaged sites in the world. In this list we also find the valley of kings in Egypt and the Chinese wall.
