Belmont or Deir Balamand is a beautiful 350 th and th century abbey built at m altitude by the Cistercian sea. In 1289, during the capture of Tripoli by Qalaôun, monks fled from the abbey, which was later occupied by Orthodox nuns. The convent presents an important th- and th-century collection of icons, whose famous St. George falls the dragon. This site also houses Balamand University.
