CHEZ MINOS
Located in a small alleyway in the heart of El Mina, this small restaurant is inseparable from the owner, who is not called Minos (it is his son!), but the "Captain". This Lebanon-Greek, a former captain of the merchant navy, was born in El Mina more than seventy years ago. After travelling the world's seas, he decided to return home, where his father already owned a fish restaurant. In an old Ottoman house dating back three hundred years, which he patiently restored while keeping the patina of the place, the Captain serves perhaps the best mezze of fish in Lebanon. After several starters of its creation, the main course is a fish grilled in a wood oven, sometimes caught by itself. All the recipes are original (its fried fish egg fritters or its tehena fish are simply to be enjoyed...). It is not uncommon to meet a Beirut chef who came to Minos to be inspired by the Captain's talents. After a gargantuan meal, all that remains is to have a drink with the boss and listen to his many stories as a sailor.
