AL-BURTASIYAT MADRASAH
Leaving the khan el-Khayyâtin, we arrive at the madrassa al-Burtasiyat, near a beautiful mosque in square minaret. It was built in 1376 by Issa al-Burtassé. Inside, the prayer room exalts the beauty of the mosaics in the thousand colours. Located on the shores of Abu Ali, the madrassa was severely damaged in 1955 by the significant flood of the river. Today, he is imprisoned in a concrete jacket that is all the more ugly since many detritus comes to joncher his bed. On the other shore situated the old houses in the Qoubbé district. Attracted by the Lebanese standard of living, many Alawi came to this popular neighborhood hoping to escape from the deep misery in which they lived in Syria.
