THE FORTRESS OF AKKAR EL AATIQA
According to testimonies, this fortress would have been the property of the Abu Akkar family until 1019. It was then conquered by the fatimides fatimides of Egypt and then by bursa Turks. Finally, the crusaders reportedly took over after the capture of Tripoli (1109). Thanks to its strategic position (crossing between Tripoli and Homs but also between the Bekaa and Homs), the castle was able to launch assaults throughout the region and to pull out quickly. But despite its apparent inviolability, it was conquered by Baibars in 1271.
In the th century, Fakhreddine attacked and destroyed him. Except the dungeon in the northern part a little better preserved, so there's nothing left to see if it's not a pile of ruins. The sculpted stone stones of the Baibars era are still distinguished. Fortunately, the grandiose panorama at the top of the fortress deserves a detour. In fact, the castle of Akkar (also called the castle Guibelacard or Gibelacar) is a pretext for discovering a beautiful region unfortunately deserted by tourists.
